Liminal spaces between seasons
As winter draws to a close but spring has not quite sprung, we find ourselves in the liminal space between seasons. This liminal space can feel unsettling, but it can also hold magic if you feel for it and relax into it.
This space between the dark days, cosiness and hibernation mode and the lighter days, new shoots and rising energy can feel tumultuous. Torn between the downwards grounding yin energy of winter and the upwards yang energy of spring we can feel polarised by the opposing forces.
My invitation to you is to stop, take a deep breath and place your hand on your heart. How does your body feel? Do you feel aligned with the spring energy yet? If not, keep wintering. Wait a while with the energy of winter, stay slow and stay cosy. Store up your energy, you will need it when spring is in full force and mother nature and life speeds up.
As those tender green shoots push their head above ground, so too will we, but until then let's rest a while longer. Draw the blanket around your shoulders, draw your knees up beneath you on the sofa and lose yourself in that book you wanted to finish or the movie on your watch list. Be unapologetic about your rest. Time spent resting now will serve us well in the next season.
Any restorative practice has a nourishing effect on the nervous system. So enjoy this precious liminal space between seasons. Be present to all that is and above all, be true to yourself and your body’s needs.
