Mindful Fertility Book

My journey to motherhood was complex and challenging and took seven long years. The emotional and physical pain of infertility and IVF treatments took their toll. I was in the deep despair when I discovered mindfulness. The first instruction that made an impact on me from my first mindfulness teacher was that “it is not he situation which causes us pain, but our thoughts about the situation”. This made sense but how could I control these all consuming thoughts?

Through mindfulness, I learned to create space around my obsessive thoughts about infertility. I could take a step back and question my thoughts, recognise when I was ruminating over past events (which have gone and cannot be changed) or speculating about future events (which can never be accurately predicted). Mindfulness supported me whilst sat in IVF clinic waiting rooms, during friends pregnancy announcement and through many two week waits.

Once I had moved through infertility to motherhood I knew I had to transform my wounds into wisdom for other women experiencing infertility.

The Mindful Fertility book is a short book of simple mindfulness practice scattered between excerpts of my infertility journey.

These practices saved me during the darkest times and I hope, that through incorporating them into your own fertility journey you can create some moments of calm and clarity for yourself too.
