A self soothing ritual with Geranium essential oil

I want to share with a beautiful ritual for self soothing and self compassion using geranium essential oil.

Historically, the geranium flower has been said to hold powers of love, peace, healing, elegance and spiritualism and to symbolise fertility, health, joy, protection and friendship. In folklore geranium was a component in magical spells for protection and love. On an energetic level, Geranium essential oil is the oil of love and trust. It will gently guide you back to your heart centre when you are feeling emotional, angry or hormonal.

I like to imagine Geranium as a regulator and restorer. When we are feeling stressed or anxious or if we feel unbalanced in our emotions due to hormonal issues, we have an element tof dysregulation in our nervous system. Allowing geranium essential oils to soak into our cells can bring a sense of restoration and regulation to these unbalanced systems.

Use this heart chakra oil to support your ability to give and receive love (encouraging reciprocity rather than overgiving) and develop a more loving and compassionate relationship with yourself. If you have experienced old hurts that block you from trusting again, geranium can support you in learning to trust again.

Geranium can help you dissolve tendencies to compare or feel envious, reminding you that you are worthy of love. You don’t need anyone's approval.

A ritual for opening up to love using geranium oil……

I encourage you to create your own private ritual space. It doesn’t have to be fancy, just a corner of the house for you to sit in stillness with those things that bring you peace. You may have a candle, your favourite book, a journal or some incense. 

In your private ritual space dilute 3 drops of geranium oil in 1 teaspoon of carrier oil in a small bowl that you have dedicated for these rituals. Inhale deeply from the bowl and enjoy the aroma of the oil. Dip your fingers into the bowl and slowly massage the oil over your heart chakra area. Close your eyes and imagine the pink geranium flower opening up and flowering at your heart space. Imagine more blooms gently unfurling and spreading their love and restorative, calming, energy throughout your whole body infusing every cell. Keep inhaling the soft floral aroma. Allow the spirit of geranium to flow over your body infusing you with love and compassion. As you sit in meditation with geranium oil affirm to yourself “I open myself to give and receive love”.

Sit for as long as you need to and enjoy the meditation. When you are ready, open your eyes and journal thoughts or feelings that arose for you during the ritual. Try working with geranium over the course of a few days or weeks until you feel a shift in your energy.
